And I really think that what I appreciate about Zoran Mamdani's run, and I think what I've appreciated when I used to live in New York, and I think something you learn when you do live in New York and you travel around and you have to get to work and you're with everyone rubbing elbows on the subway, is that everyone, regardless of race or religion, is deserving of respect.

And everyone's trying to make a living.

get their things together, get to work on time, get their Christmas shopping done, you know, take the cat to the vet on the freaking C train.

I mean, it is like, it really is for all people.

And I think that Mamdani really captured the New Yorkness of that inclusivity.

And I think when we separate antisemitism out from other kinds of hatred, because look, man, I lived in New York in the wake of 9-11.

I was there on 9-11.

I lived there in the wake of 9-11.

The kinds of Islamophobia that we saw directly

openly right i remember i went to a comedy club i'm a stand-up comic at the time i wasn't i was younger but i went to a comedy club we're talking like people these comics are throwing out like sand n-word they are like openly mocking muslims in the wake of you know of 9 11 and on the one hand you're like look it's a comedy club they're saying whatever and it's fine but but truly culturally

New York was a hostile both in policy in terms of surveilling the Muslim community, but also in culturally in the racism towards the Muslim community.

And so it's like all kinds of hatred are bad.

And I really think we need to push back against the idea that one is worse than the other.

This is not a competition.

This is not a race.

This is about actually finding all forms of hatred and nipping them in the bud.

And I feel like Zoran's entire win was saying,

Hey, as a Muslim man, I actually can stand arm in arm with my Jewish colleagues and neighbors, and I support their human rights just as I hope and imagine they support mine.

That was the revelation of Mamdani.
