20 to nine, the first siren would go.

And that was the one to go to your class.

So when I heard that one, I'd get up and then, you know, have a quick wash, get dressed and then get across the road in time, you know, to go into the class for a nine o'clock start and stuff like that.

That's kind of how I did my schooling.

And, you know, never really had any lunch.

You just, whatever was there, you know?

So that was the way it just kind of was.

But yeah, I didn't have a plan or anything.

And

Our school wasn't really a sports school.

We had a rugby team and then I played a little bit in the lower grades, but not really.

I was up at the club, but there was volleyball and basketball and a whole lot of different because we had a huge mix of people in that school.

And we were actually the first school that didn't –

didn't cane, you know, didn't have that punishment.

Really?

Yeah, as a secondary school.

Yeah.

So, yeah, there was no straps.

And, you know, I'd come through primary school and intermediate school and stuff like that where you got strapped, you know, for whatever and then got to Māngere College and they didn't have any punishments there like that.

So that was quite good.
