GMs don't try and buy down players' contracts by giving them 10, 16, and 20 team no trades.
So maybe we're getting out of that world now because the cap is going up, but that's the reality of where everything has been for the longest time.
Okay, you can't do nothing, clearly, but you can't do everything.
When the Canucks say that it's a rebuild but not a sell-off, they have to strike the right balance of making sure that, A, you're hitting a salary cap floor.
You have to do that, so you need certain money on your books.
But if you use Chicago as an example, they went full scorched earth.
And they've unintentionally finished 31st again now when they don't want to be because they want to be turning a corner.
So there's a balance there between trading players off, bringing assets in, but not getting it to the point where your young guys are all trying to figure out the NHL together without the right experience and veteran guys around them because it makes a difference when you have good mentors who can show you the way.
I think that's the big thing, right?
He's got to be healthy, which he has been now for...

He's never been a number one because he's had to play behind Makar and Rasmus Dahlin.
So he's going to be a number one now.
He's going to be a number one on a team that isn't going to give him a ton of support.
So there's going to be moments where maybe he's trying to do a lot with the puck and could get exposed that way or eaten some minuses that is not a good feeling.
But that's the reality of the team that he's going to.
But the big question I had was,
Like Chicago needs help for sure.
Chicago needs forwards.
Like they need forwards to play with Conor Bedard, like highly skilled forwards.
