Well, the prosecuting barrister is a man called Carl Finnegan, and he began his opening address to the jurors today by setting out the charges faced and denied by Riyadh Bhushakar.
You mentioned four of them there at the top of the piece.
He's also facing three counts of assault, causing harm to two other children and a man who came on the scene and intervened during the alleged attack.
And he's also facing a knife offence.
The barrister for the state also acknowledged the fact that this is a case that attracted
a considerable amount of public attention, but he told the jury to put that out of their minds.
He told them not to rely on media reports as social media or public opinion.
He told them they should only consider the evidence and not to decide this case on emotion, sympathy or outrage.
And in relation to what's alleged to have happened on the day in question back in November of 2023, he said a group of young children were leaving school that afternoon when Mr. Bauschacker is alleged to have approached them with a knife and started stabbing them.
The jury was told they would hear from a childcare worker who was with the children at the time that she became aware of a man that we now know to be Mr. Bouchaker close by.
She said that she noticed that he had a knife and after he started jabbing with it, she grabbed him from behind, shouted at him to get away.
At one point, she noticed that she herself had been stabbed.
The jury was also told they'd hear from a number of independent eyewitnesses, people out walking that day, drivers passing by, as well as the members of the public who intervened.
The knife, the jury was told, will be a central exhibit.
