So if you say that when people die, then they have death is a realization event.
So they have to pay capital gains tax at the time of death.
In that case, yeah, they would have to pay when they die.
The way some countries operate is that there is a so-called carryover of basis.
I'm sorry, it's a bit technical, meaning heirs inherit the basis of their parents.
In any case, long story short, you do those fixes, and in the best case, you get money, the government gets money when billionaires die.
But that can be decades.
In most cases, it's going to be decades down the road.
And here, there is something that's really weird because for most people, almost everybody has to pay taxes each and every year.
If you're self-employed, you have to make advanced tax payments each quarter.
The government really insists on you paying taxes on a very regular basis.
And that's for good reason.
It's because we have collective revenue needs for education, for health, for infrastructure.
And so we can't wait.
for 20 or 30 years before the government gets money.
It needs money every quarter, every year.
Why should the billionaires be allowed to pay in decades down the road when everybody has to pay now?
That's the fundamental problem.
If you do what you described, which is just to say, okay, when people borrow money, they would have to pay taxes on that borrowing, fine, do it.
But these are small amounts.
