I'm not somebody that worries about showing vulnerability.
I think the players needed to understand that I had empathy.
I mean, you're not always going to be able to directly relate to a group of people that you're managing and leading.
But in that instance, having been a player was helpful.
I don't think you have to have been a top player to be a coach, which was lucky because I wasn't a top player back then.
But in those examples, the fact that you've walked in their shoes and you know how difficult it is and you can tell them why you didn't.
I failed to execute a skill under pressure.
So how can I help you to be able to master that skill?
And this is why I think it's important and this is what I think can help you.
I think people see you're human.
They get that you're opening up for them.
You're bearing everything.
You're leaving yourself a bit exposed, but actually you're confident enough to do that.
So it's not a sign of weakness, I'd say.
It's a sign of strong confidence that, yeah, I don't mind standing up in front of this group of people
