There isn't necessarily a goodness of fit.
When people would come to me, I would take time in the beginning to explain my approach because this is my approach.
It isn't suitable to everyone.
And so if you're in with a therapist where given whatever time you need, you figure out this isn't working for you.
It's appropriate to terminate.
I worry and wonder sometimes about the therapist who won't respect the client's perspective on that and frames it as resistance, as there's something still wrong with you.
There is an inherent conflict of interest in my profession.
The longer I see you, the more money I make.
And if I stop, look, it's true, David.
Yeah, no, you're right.
You're right.
It's true.
And if I stop seeing you, do I have a wait list?
Is there someone to replace you and your income stream, quite frankly?
Yes, all the time.
And in fact, I let people know you will not be seeing me forever.
We will see each other for a period of time after which I will no longer be in your life.
I may still be in your head and hopefully is a good thing, but I won't be in your life.
Good, good.
But I just want to say every therapist is born human first.
