And we're far less good at that, deciding where to put those thresholds.
in our mental health problems.
And so I'd like us to talk about that more openly, to be a bit more humble and to accept the level of fluidity that's in the system because we're all fluid.
We all, you know, our minds are part of nature and nature's rule is that everything flows.
Everything is flowing into everything else.
We don't experience our mental life in chunks.
It's all mixing in.
And there's parts of this book that talk about the fact that some of my patients with autism, their main issue is actually anxiety.
You know, anxiety can breed delusions and make you psychotic sometimes.
Sometimes I meet psychotic people with anxiety because they become so paranoid.
Psychosis can feed an addiction and then you can end up with an alcohol problem.
Your alcohol problem can make you depressed.
So all these different problems are flowing into one another.
And if we could hold these labels a bit more lightly, we would create a society, I hope, and a medical culture, which is a bit more accepting of difference and a bit more hopeful, which is my greatest ambition for this book.
Yeah.
Well, thank you for that.
No, I'm really glad to come to GPs because it's a big part of my job that I really enjoy.
And if I, my patients find it helpful for me,
then I'm really hope that I get to keep on doing it.
But it is a particular social moment we're living in the 2020s where we tend to medicalize emotional distress quite heavily that is coming to GPs and other cultures do things differently.
