Hello.

So I think both are clear now.

I think the passage of the last year and you've described the drama over Greenland.

And you've described the American disappointment with the way that they felt Europe stood behind them in the war in Iran.

Didn't stand behind them.

Yes.

So I think what has become very clear in the last year is that the US cavalry no longer plans to come to rescue Europe.

We should be absolutely clear.

And the US has put it in its national security strategy, its national defence strategy, and in its political rhetoric, that it has decided that Europe is not a defence and security priority.

It sits behind their homeland, their hemisphere, their conversation with China in Indo-Pacific, and it reflects th their expectation

that the US taxpayer no longer pays for European defence in the way that it has since nineteen forty nine, because it's no longer nineteen forty nine.

And therefore

all that is left to bargain over,

is the rate at which the US support to European security changes.

and by that I mean declines, and to hope very much that as a matter of clear mutual interest between Europe and the US,

that th the NATO alliance hangs together because it is clearly important to both sides of the Atlantic.

So I think that's clear.

I also think the thing that's become much clearer in the last year is the way that Russia is confronting Europe.

Now, we've seen that clearly in daily activity below the threshold of military conflict in cyber and social media manipulation.

But the issue we're now clearly wrestling with is what happens now really as a result of an outcome approaching in Ukraine, whether it's by design, Russia deciding to stop and move on, or by ex exhaustion.
