I think that's part of it, plus just the general idea, Marshall, that the Chicago delegation was being asked to approve a bill that would help the Bears leave Chicago.
And politically, that wasn't something they wanted to do.
Because it had a bunch of other stuff on it.
There were, I think, 10 or 11 Republicans that voted for that bill in the House.
Yeah, typically.
But again, you have not only the sort of the party dynamic, the Democrats and the Republicans, you have very much the city versus the suburban dynamic.
And that is...
And the Chicago delegation, after hearing that the Bears and the Johnson administration had been in conversation, gave them enough of an opening.
And in fact, the mayor went down a month ago to make the case for a number of different city priorities.
And one of them was this.
And he and I talked a few weeks ago, three weeks ago.
And I'm like, so as I understand your position, what you're telling lawmakers there is nobody likes this bill, and I can't imagine why anybody who supports or represents Chicago would vote for it.
And he laughed, and he said, God, when you say it like that, it sounds so harsh.
I said, but that's not inaccurate, right?
He said, no, it's not inaccurate.
Everybody hates this bill.
Yes.
I agree.
That's an interesting theory, Marshall.
And I asked the mayor when we were talking, and at the beginning of May, he said, this whole idea of Hammond, Indiana, I just really question the validity of this idea.
