Oh yeah, it was all in the 80s.
The original offences had occurred in the early 1960s and they were arrested in 1965 and convicted in 1966 of child abduction and murders.
So they were both sentenced to life imprisonment.
They were convicted of three murders, but there were two other children who were missing who were never formally linked to that case, or cases, should I say.
So the review that we undertook in the 1980s was really to find out what happened to the other two missing children.
Prior to that point, there had never been any formal connection between Brady and Hindley and the other two missing kids.

Review in the 1980s came about because a journalist called Fred Harrison
managed to wheedle his way into prison to see Ian Brady.
And he pretended to be a kind of social worker, for want of a better description, who was going to help Ian Brady when in fact he was a tabloid journalist.
So he did a bit of a con job and carried this on for some time.
And then eventually he came out and wrote a headline saying that Brady had confessed his
to these other two murders to him, which Brady hadn't.
All he'd done was not say he'd done them.
