He knows it is.
He tells them it is.
He makes the film.
It's not very good.
They close it after a single weekend.
His name is Dirt.
And he goes to Greta, cap in hand, to ask her if she will be in the film to help save him.
And it's told from her perspective.
And it's so wonderful how delicately she refuses him.
She is a star.
He has made her, she acknowledges that, but she will not be dragged down by him.
She will stay above water and stay the most beautiful woman in the world.
I know, and it's a bloody disaster.
And it's a disaster.
The poor fellow is obviously so elderly and psychologically infirm that we're inside his head and all we can hear is kind of a reiteration of the three stories that he can remember and he can't remember the punchlines.
But what becomes clear is he's being dragged on by the party, the official party communications organs, to talk in part about his old colleague and mentor, Pabst.
And that's our introduction.
But what we already know is this is a man...
who is morally compromised.
And his response, in a way, has been to mentally shut down.
