It's it's sort of like been a debate uh in the run up to the elections.
But uh comparatively to uh other elections elsewhere, uh still Zambia uh still stands out because uh they've had um sort of like uh the history of uh power transfer since uh the return of multi party democracy uh in nineteen ninety one.
But this election actually uh was uh being seen as a test of uh its uh democratic uh
credentials uh because of all the allegations that had been raised by the opposition in the run up uh to the election itself.
So the basically the conduct of uh the electoral commission and also the government even during the post electoral period is uh something that is being uh watched uh very closely.
Yes, so the two uh leaders uh because you had fourteen candidates, but two of them most prominent, of course, uh the incumbent uh President uh Hichelema and uh Bran Mundubile, uh who is uh a former government uh minister and uh was also allied uh to the former late uh President uh Edgar Lungu.
Uh you know, Hichelema has really been uh banking on his economic uh track record uh to endear himself uh to the
Electorate.
So if you have um speaking to an ordinary Zambian, they would say at the top of their mind, the issues that was really going to influence how they voted, it's basically unemployment and also the rising cost of living.
This is despite the fact that the economy has experienced a rapid growth in the past five years, partly because of the policies and the reforms that President Hakka in the Hitchele.
Dilemma has uh made.
But of course at then there are people who argue that the benefits didn't quite trickle down to the electorate.
The new response plan uh does involve community leaders.
So you'd have leaders from various villages.
The thing is that the Africa Centers for Disease Control and the WHR saying there's need to change strategy because uh the response especially from the local population has really made the whole management of the outbreak a bit complex because there has been hesitancy from local residents.
To report people who have symptoms of Ebola.
There has been skepticism just about the disease itself and also the health workers.
So this has really proved sort of like a barrier.
The containment efforts have been really quite complicated because the local population seems not to quite coordinate with health workers.
I then of course these uh the cultural practices element.
