So at this point, a new politician pops up very dramatically.
Tell us about him and where he came from.
Well, all of that sounds horribly familiar again today.
Um, and obviously he was a radically different character from the sound of it to John Sherman.
Um now, as I understand it, in eighteen ninety, John Sherman was a big name in US politics.
Never mind the, you know, criticism he'd suffered around the silver issue before.
Um, but William Jennings Bryan was still an absolute nobody.
Um, he was just a sort of newly elected congressman and from a rural backwater.
How did he end up having this meteoric political rise?
Because in those days there was no cable TV or social media.
How did he suddenly burst on the scene?
Wow.
Well if anyone thinks that monetary policy is boring, um, think again because we're showing just how explosive it can be sometimes.
But
A bit of a spoiler alert here.
On that background we've just heard about, you might have presumed that he then rocketed up with his populist message to become president of the United States.
And yet he didn't.
So what happened to deny him the presidency?
So tell us what you really think.
I mean that again, it makes some of the language thrown around the Twitter sphere today seem almost marred by comparison, you know, but there you go.
