And Martin is still in the commentary box with Sky Sports in the UK.

And probably for a lot of people is now much more memorable as a commentator and expert F1 analyst and voice of opinion and expert opinion commentator.

than maybe he was as a driver.

So this one was always going to be high on my list.

I think his driving career in the V10 era, his V10 years,

probably best described as maybe right place, wrong time, and a couple of times.

He's got that famous thing that Flavio Beattori would still say today that he probably shouldn't have got rid of him from Benetton in 1992 because actually Flavio didn't realise how good Michael Schumacher was at that point.

Flavio has said that to Martin.

on the grid, on one of Martin's gridwalks in recent years that he definitely shouldn't have got rid of him.

So that was unlucky.

He then did that classic thing where he put all of his eggs in the McLaren basket for 1994.

He gambled on Alain Prost not wanting to take that offer to abandon his decision to retire, to race the McLaren.

Brundle didn't entertain any other offers and right on the eve of the season,

Uh, he finally got the call up for McLaren, but then that meant he got to drive for McLaren, one of F1's greatest teams in one of its, uh, least successful season or least memorable seasons or a season that is memorable because the cars kept blowing up as we covered in our McLaren Peugeot episode of, um, looking back on 1994, which of course was where he had the famous moment where his car, uh,

became a blaze at the start of the British Grand Prix.

So he's got kind of famous, iconic imagery moments as well.

And yeah, I think took to the commentary role with ITV alongside Murray Walker, the great Murray Walker, brilliantly in those first few years at ITV and has since moved around.

As the F1 rights have moved around in the UK, whoever's taken them up has always taken Martin Brundle on as well.

And I think that really is saying something.
