I think also an important part of that as well is he was at 10, so Jack Rowley is probably better suited to that game.

Brendan Gass is more of a system player, so it'd be unfair to maybe ask him to play a game that doesn't fit his skill set.

Lots of changes, lots of debuts.

It was a game, you know, that you wanted to go really, really, really well.

And you wanted Ciarán Froli to be at his swashbuckling best.

And then after 30 minutes, you realize it just wasn't going to be that game.

So that's fine.

This happens, you know, a lot of players getting exposure at this level.

You know, I was joking with Stuart Lancaster in the taxi on the way here.

And he was saying you sometimes get matches that you don't want as a player.

And you'd prefer to be last week in the team or potentially shine.

But it was a game it was hard to stand out in.

Now, I will caveat that by saying that for me, a couple of players did stand out.

I thought Japan well drilled, exactly what you would expect from an Eddie Jones team.

I thought the Irish defence was easily able to cope with the Japanese attack and then they were just able to power, I think a couple of individual performances, they were able to power away.

They got the match, they got the points, they got what they wanted from it.

So yeah, it was a mediocre game and one that you won't probably learn an awful lot of with the whole context of the season.
