The way I met him, I had a guy working for me by the name of James Wesley, so he was a sales rep for us at Empower.
And he went to work for Jeff and Jeff was a managing partner at D D B.
And uh he came back and saw me and said, Hey, you should meet my new boss.
He's like a really cool guy and he's got this vodka business and you know, you should have a talk to him.
I think you guys get on well.
So we met and um yeah, we had that had that conversation and um yeah, I said to Jeff
Quite fa it's quite famously.
I've used a lot.
But um you know, he said, Oh I could think I could do a thousand cases and I said, Seriously, get a real goal because and he was very taken aback by it at the time.
But he always remembers that was this kind of start of it.
Because it's like what could you really do if you really wanted to?
You know, because there's really no point in selling a thousand cases of vodka, you know, you just a little cottage industry, so why would you bother?
So have a proper go.
Oh, the company had a lot of potential because the world market and white spirits, particularly vodka and tequila, is massive.
hundreds of billions of dollars.
And there was a resurgence in the spirits world and at that time and I sort of knew that, you know, so there's sort of less people buying beer, more people buying wine, more people buying cocktails, that sort of stuff.
And it was a worldwide market and, you know, selling things made in New Zealand's quite a good story when you're overseas, kind of the clean green type thing.
And vodka sort of lent itself to that quite well.
So that's sort of why we liked it to begin with.
