There is anthropic research that came out over the summer and also some open AI related research where they would put these models in experiments where they were telling them the model was going to be shut down.
In the OpenAI case, when the model found out it was going to be shut down, it would actually copy itself onto another computer system in order to stay alive, to continue to exist.
Maybe not alive, but continue to exist and be present in the future.
