And for them, these stock futures are the easiest and quickest way to do it. matched

It's been around for a while, but it does seem like interest in it has exploded this year with overnight trading volumes for the E-mini S&P 500 futures contract hitting a record. matched

And some people I spoke to also said, hey, it seems like markets are more interconnected than ever. matched

And people from all parts of the world are looking to trade these things and they're looking to trade major U.S. matched

indexes. matched

And for them, these stock futures are the easiest and quickest way to do it. matched

Yes, people, I believe, can trade stocks after hours. matched

But what's really been popular this year is an uptick in stock futures trading. matched

Stock futures trading in a popular contract known as the E-mini S&P 500 futures contract hit a record in the first quarter of this year. matched

Markets have been exceptionally volatile after hours in recent weeks during the pandemic. matched

And to give you one example of that, futures have a maximum gain or loss that they're allowed after hours of 5%. matched

And these S&P 500 futures have hit that maximum gain or loss allowed at least nine times this year. matched

They didn't hit that even once last year or the year prior. matched

In fact, the last time we hit this so-called limit down situation was in 2016 during the presidential election. matched

It's tough to say how returns for all investors are faring in the after hours session, but I will say that it seems like this uptick in volumes and volatility has lured in a lot of traders who are saying, hey, I think there's an opportunity for me to profit here. matched

I wasn't trading as much in the after hours session, but I'm going to start. matched

And I spoke to several traders and brokers that took that sentiment. matched

It seems like a lot of the moves overnight have been declines, as in the stock futures are declining overnight because investors are reacting so quickly to the news. matched

And these futures contracts seem like pretty easy things to trade, you know, right after the Federal Reserve makes a statement or there's a White House press conference. matched
