What does it mean to be healthy?
There's a trade-off, again, as I understand it, between fertility and vitality.
If you understand me correctly, that's not a medical term.
But again, you can take certain drugs that make you bigger, but perhaps it causes you to be not as fertile.
And so there are values and trade-offs in the conversation about what health is, I think.
Yeah, yeah.
So we've laid out the complexity of biology and we've laid out how intelligence is not necessarily the main bottleneck here and how there are many other bottlenecks.
Now, as an insider in this system, how would you say AI fits into the drug development pipeline?
Where does it help us and where doesn't it help us?
I often hear stories from medical researchers about how much time they feel like they have to spend on sort of processes, on interacting with bureaucracy, on filling out paperwork and so on.
So there's how AI might be able to help on the actual biology.
And then you tell me, is there also a story of how AI might help us speed up some of these processes so we can spend the valuable time of the scientists on solving the actual problems?
How would you sort of summarize the history of the FDA?
Because it seems to me that at one point the FDA was really necessary to sort of fix the Wild West situation that was going on in medicine.
And perhaps then at some point lessons were learned and perhaps over-learned, and now we have a system that is not flexible enough.
In one section of your piece, you write about how there are certain drugs, Viagra, GLP-1s, that couldn't really be approved today.
Tell us about that.
Literal snake oil, right?
You mentioned speeding up clinical trials or compressing the time it takes to conduct a clinical trial.
