We were interacting with people who were entrepreneurs, small business owners, people who were paying taxes.
These are law-abiding immigrant family members who we were dealing with at Delaney Hall.
And it's a privately run detention center.
And its objective is to make profit.
And when you have a privately run detention center like Delaney Hall, then the incentive is to actually cut corners, cut costs, which often means inadequate food, inadequate living conditions, and certainly inadequate medical treatment.
And that's what we learned about, experienced, and witnessed when talking to more than a dozen people at Delaney Hall.
