He concludes that the impact of age on male fertility becomes pronounced from around the late 30s.
Now, that study presumes that partners are the same age.
So if we take that statistic accurately,
82% of women aged 35 will conceive within a year of trying.
That falls a full 10 percentage points to 72% if the male partner is 40, just five years older.

Our item on left-handers a few weeks ago prompted several people to email about this statement from Professor Chris McManus from University College London.
Adrian, Tina, Nicola and Eric all wanted to know why, especially as Chris had said in the interview that people at that time tried to hide their left-handedness.
Well, we got in touch with Chris, who told us that the data they have on left-handed parents is pretty good and comes from a survey of students in the US born in the late 1800s.
As for why they might be having fewer children, he's not sure, but he thinks it may be because left-handers got married later because of the stigma
and had less time to procreate.
And he says although some people tried to hide their left-handedness, this would have been difficult in the tight-knit communities of the 19th century.
Well, this story originated right here at the BBC at Radio 5 Live.
It started with a Freedom of Information request from the Victoria Derbyshire programme to every NHS trust and health board across the UK.
They asked how many under-18s had been to an A&E department for an alcohol-related condition over the past five years.
Well, there are about 9 million 11s and under in the UK.
And even if we just consider 11-year-olds, there are 700,000 of those.
It was, but it's a very messy number.
