That's why he surfed.

He loved being in the sort of moment.

And surfing is so about the moment, the now.

You know, you can't be anywhere but present.

And so I think in a way it brought me comfort to go to the water, which I knew, although it was the place that stole him from us, it was also a place that he loved.

So I think it's natural to sort of feel a connection maybe to him through that place.

Tell me about going back to Tamarama Beach and how that felt.

So I did that quite early on.

I went with a friend and I needed to go and try and understand.

I think it was the first time that I felt that I was trying to piece together what had actually happened to Matt.

And it was sort of like doing my own investigation.

Yeah.

And I went down to Tamarama and I sat quite a long way back from the waves on the sand and I just kind of looked around and it was incredibly emotional, obviously, but it's such a beautiful place.

I mean, it's stunning down there.

So there was a small part of me that could still feel some kind of comfort that Matt had died in this really

beautiful landscape I mean it sounds really weird to say doing what he loved as well yeah there was a small amount of comfort to be found in that but it was immensely painful and then I actually walked up onto sort of the cliffs to overlook where they call it the twins it's sort of a rocky outcrop where which separates Bronte Beach from Tamarama Beach you probably know it well and

And I went and stood up there to sort of look down and try and understand sort of the rips and the tidal movement and, you know, the sort of freakish accident that unfolded for Matt.

And it was bizarre because I actually found the fisherman who had called triple zero as Matt's accident was unfolding.

He'd been the one to alert the emergency services.

So I was able to talk to him and get his perspective on what happened.
