You know, what feels so threatening about knowing things about our loved ones, like knowing their mistakes or their sufferings or their histories.

She died almost thirty years ago.

Um, but also because I really knew her in the wake of the two greatest tragedies of her life, which were her daughter's life imprisonment and then her husband, her great love's death.

And so I think I knew my grandmother in incredibly grief stricken years.
