That's just not a team, I think, has put themselves in a position to get sort of a handshake deal, whereas some other teams or GMs maybe have earned some of that equity to do something like that.
I think there's two lessons to be learned here.
One, lock your players up as soon as you can and not risk it.
Like I think, you know, Edmonton certainly was kicking themselves not getting at least Dylan Holloway signed early, right?
Maybe Philip Broberg just didn't want to sign and you can't force someone.
But get your players signed up.
And you look at Carolina, ever since there was offer sheets back and forth from Montreal,
they sign all their RFAs early, right?
Anyone that's eligible for an offer sheet.
The one guy that is still sitting out there that didn't sign early is Nikitian because he's not eligible for an offer sheet.
So to me, that's the one lesson.
The other one, though, I think is valuable is how you treat
players on the negotiations, when you have all the leverage, does come back around.
And whether it's for that player or the agent or just sort of the general sentiment, I do think it comes back around.
And there's lots of examples of Anaheim really squeezing players, not just coming out of their entry-level deals, but even on their entry-level deals, squeezing on the signing bonus amount or the games played bonus, right?
And I get it.
Teams have to do its best and try to optimize their cap
But sometimes, you know, you can win a battle and lose the war.
And when there is that sentiment out there that this team is going to squeeze our neck every chance they get.
So when we get, when the tables turn, let's send it back over the net.
