It's going to cost billions.
Diesel is not expensive.
We've already got the storage tanks up north at Marsden Point.
Diesel, though, is more expensive to burn in the long run than gases, but it actually works out cheaper to do the diesel if you're just doing it through to 2035 as a backup.
So if you burn it through to then, diesel costs us apparently an estimated $3 billion.
LNG costs us $3.5 billion.
Now, what makes this more interesting?
than just the fact that this argument is even being proffered, right, is who it's coming from.
It's coming from rewiring Aotearoa, which is the lobby group, who are all about electrifying New Zealand and building the solar panels, all the climate-friendly stuff.
Now they're telling us to burn diesel.
