So this was really a somewhat fringe theory ten years ago.
It's astonishing that we're talking about it as a real intellectual battle if we think about where we were ten years ago.
But what you see now, which is very interesting, is quite a number
Of Democratic policy thinkers and even maybe more quietly, some Democratic future presidential contenders saying, you know, I'd quite like to use some of those powers myself.
So although it was completely fringe ten years ago, and I I wouldn't have thought I'd been talking seriously about it on a podcast with serious people.
Very serious podcast with very serious people.
But I think it's here to stay because as I said, at least some Democrats now feel
Find the array of powers available very tempting.
A couple points.
One to add on to Max's last point.
You see a very interesting and not very private back and forth among members of Trump's circle about how far to go in changing or acting outside the rules of the game around elections.
You had his longtime informal advisor, Steve Bannon.
Come out this week and encourage him both to declare certain sitting Democratic senators illegitimate and to declare a state of emergency, which has been something Bannon has pushed for throughout his presidency.
And so far others within Trump Circle have pushed back.
So you see that happening and this continued effort to frankly delegitimize election officials and local election authorities because the US, we don't even administer our elections.
Nationally, so we don't have one election, we have fifty elections run by mystifies other countries.
Disorganise its own elections, yes.
Um and then at the same time, Bronwyn, as you alluded to
unsurprisingly, with so much angst and vigor and rancor in US politics, you have now forces within the Democratic Party
Really fighting very viciously, both on some issues, but also on the question of what it looks like to fight back.
