I called out one more time as I directed my attention to the first door to my left.
The door that led to the room whose floor caved in over the living space.
Grabbing the wiggly doorknob.
The hinges made a high pitched trilling sound similar to that of a screech owl's.
It was the little laughter that preceded an unanticipated sense of implosion.
Two steps in.
The smallness of the bedroom.
And the way the ceiling seemed to bow above me.
Overwhelmed me with the feeling that the space was closing in on itself.
Like everything was on the verge of crumbling inward.
To be sucked through the black hole in the floor.
But there was something else.
Something else that made my skin crawl.
Was it the wall paper?
Livid like a corpse's skin.
And the way it peeled as if the house was decomposing like a person.
