A witch shifts the baby in her arms so she can hold him in the crook of one elbow, and I can't help but suck in a sharp breath at the thought that she might drop him.
She pulls a knife from the sash around her waist with her freed hand and holds it out to me over the baby's head.
I snatch it out of her hand.
