Yes, I mean, the 29,000 and the 200,000 are in a way two different expressions of the same thing.
You wouldn't add them together.
No, for two reasons.
The deaths during the Great Smog were as a result of acute exposure to air pollution, whereas the 29,000 is as a result of long-term exposure to air pollution.
So the basis is not actually the same.
If you had calculated the effects of long-term exposure to the smog in 1952, it would be substantially larger.
The results are roughly proportional to the concentrations of pollution, and we know they were large.

And I think it's a difficult thing to put across, but quite an important point to put across that some of these risk factors that in combination with other risk factors having a small effect can still have a big public health impact over the long term.
