And there was a fight.
And then Buddhism won.
But what happened was that the Buddhists didn't wipe out the native belief system.
They decided to coexist peacefully.
And so our spirituality is such hodgepodge.
Hodgepodge.
But the thing is, there is a time period.
There was a difficult time, 19th century.
In the Meiji era.
Meiji, yes.
Modernization.
And when the Western concept came in,
religion, shugyo.
And Japan, Japanese government wanted to decide to be like Westerns, to compete or same level.
So they tried to use the concept of religion and then reshape
The hodgepodge of spirituality, which is cut it out, wipe out everything except Shinto.
And that became state Shinto.
And it didn't work.
1945, August 15, Japan became secular.
But we had, there was a long history of hodgepodge, coexist, mixture.
