Listen to them.
Jeanette McCurdy's.
I'm glad my mum died, yep.
Because I just think...
it's like a long podcast and you can dip in and out and there's something about listening to their voice do it i only skies anyway whatever so lena dunham obviously narrates fame sick the thing that's so great about fame sick even if you're not a lena dunham person necessarily i wasn't really a girl's person it was just kind of in between my cultural obsessions i watched some of it and like sure she's talented oh that's what i thought at the time sure she's talented
But she then became much larger to me as like an internet personality and eternal car crash celebrity really for a period there.
But the thing that's great about Famesick is it covers that time.
So it covers from when she made Girls, not all the way to the present day, but kind of the past 10 years.
during which she had lots of very well-documented struggles, as we would euphemistically call them.
Lots of serious health issues, like really serious health issues, but also chronic anxiety, mental health issues, addiction to prescription medication.
She had high-profile relationships break down.
She got cancelled for saying various levels of silly, too insensitive, too insulting things on the internet.
She did all kinds of things.
She lived...
the gamut of fame of that period.
And that's what this book's about.
She actually dedicates it at the beginning to all the famous women who didn't make it through fame, all the way from Marilyn Monroe to Janis Joplin to Caroline Flack to Amy Winehouse to all these people, because it's really the story of what fame does to you.
And just for that reason, even if you're not really into the Lena Dunham of it all, it's fascinating because you're in this life where she's got everything.
Because she has this massive success very quickly and it comes with money, money, money, status, status, status.
Every cool person in Hollywood wants to hang with her, work with her, go to parties with her.
