I felt very much inclined to do my own thing.

And, you know, when I was around 14 or so, I started to say –

Didn't want to go to temple.

I didn't want to just go along with that.

I wanted to find my own way because those were my first days of thinking, well, what is religion for really?

isn't religion just a way of communicating morality?

And aren't these things separately?

Like, aren't these things separate?

If you can communicate morality to an entire community and have everybody sort of follow a general sense of morals, then isn't religion just sort of the ornamentation around that?

Like, these are the stories to get to the ultimate.

You know, Aesop's fables—

Ultimately, you know, what's the moral of the story?

If you can skip the story and just get to the moral, that's the important stuff.

Maybe not.

But I think I had felt like I was starting to understand what the morality was.

And I started to recognize all the different places that I was getting it from.

You know, not just from religion, but also from the way my parents just taught me to live, you know.

And also from...

You know, it's like watching Transformers and like the stories of good and evil playing out in that scale and the idea of just like being kind to people.
