I was kind of like a middle class of musician that nowadays there isn't that much of a space for, for a lot of reasons.

But at the time, you know, I was touring.

I was playing shows.

I had a record deal.

I had put so much into that album that came out in 2011.

I really thought it might take me to the next level.

And it felt like things did move forward, but it moved forward incrementally, not exponentially.

I think so.

It wasn't exactly clear when I first started, you know, when I was younger.

And the last time I made an album, I was in my early 30s.

And now I'm in my mid 40s, you know, just so much has changed in my own life.

I lost my mom.

And I've been married now for over 15 years.

Yeah.

The scale of things is just different.

And I think also just losing someone, losing my mom was really the first, my first experience with profound loss.

And she'd been such a big part of my life.

When I lost her, I started to think about how all of my experiences with her were now in the past.
