The thing that I say is that the fundamental difference of my dad, of anybody that has been in that office before, without denigrating or diminishing this particular... matched

trait great traits that many presidents had before him is my dad empathy isn't even the right word he's matched

the greatest role model of how to be a man of anyone that I've ever met, not just a father, but a man. matched

And the reason being is that then what I've found, and I'm like, I'm grateful for my whole life every day for this reason is that all my people would people like that, that you were at dinner with perceived as my fuck ups and the, you know, matched

which also include like the things I had no control over, the traumas in my life, are the things that have now allowed me to be of service and connect with other people. matched

And when I say of service, I don't mean like I'm a saint and like I'm of service to people. matched

I mean it this way, is what I recognized in my dad and what he always taught me is he does, like those phone calls, the phone call he made to you, I'm not exaggerating. matched

Over the course of my life, he probably does three of those a day. matched

But you know, he didn't say, hey, Don, it's the vice president. matched

And my point is, you know what he taught me? matched

selfish on his part, selfish on my part that I stay connected with people in recovery and talk to them every day because you know what? matched

It makes me feel connected. matched

It makes me feel like whatever loss that I went through and the grief that I went through and the struggle that I went through is related to my recovery. matched

is is not for uh nothing is that like i know i've seen him uplifted by giving of himself and that that's what i'm talking about when i talk about being of service to other people it's not because i have some courage or that he i've realized it watching my dad it is the thing that that matched

It made him, makes him a truly amazing human being. matched

know when i and i say that and i kind of look off wistfully is because cancer's really hard man you say okay you don't say great what do you mean okay he's got stage four metastatic bone cancer um you know and this is all public because he talks about it publicly otherwise it wouldn't um violate his privacy matched
