Let me give you a bit of a picture of Jodrell Bank itself, first of all. matched

So Jodrell Bank is like a UNESCO World Heritage Site. matched

And the thing people will recognise if they've ever driven past it is this 76 metre wide radio telescope dish matched

which is the Lovell Telescope. matched

Now, that is a grade one listed structure. matched

It's part of our national heritage, but it's also a very active telescope. matched

It was actually built in 1957, and they finished it just before Sputnik launched matched

It was at the time the only telescope that could then track Sputnik. matched

And so that level telescope, Jodrell Bank, the site where it is, this is in Cheshire, is a really big part of what's called radio astronomy, which is astronomy in the sort of radio wave range of the spectrum in this country and also globally. matched
