Dark matter is this mysterious, invisible substance that seems to clump around galaxies. voice-verified

Now, it doesn't emit, absorb or reflect light or any other electromagnetic radiation. voice-verified

That makes it really difficult to see. voice-verified

It's invisible, but it makes it also very hard to detect. voice-verified

And the way we really know about dark matter is through observations of the sort of gravitational effects it has on other things. voice-verified

And what we can tell is that dark matter seems to form this... It's often called a cosmic web. voice-verified

Two people who are really key in getting some understanding of dark matter out there. voice-verified

The first is a guy called Fritz Zwicky. voice-verified

He was a Swiss-born astronomer. voice-verified

And in 1933, he started looking at clusters of galaxies. voice-verified

And he noticed that there wasn't enough visible matter in these clusters of galaxies to prevent the galaxies from just flying apart. voice-verified

And he said, oh, maybe there's this stuff called, he called it dunkle materiae. voice-verified
