But I'm afraid I'm talking about long-term processes as I did last year, and not short-term processes.
Yes.
Netanyahu is a bit like a mafia boss who is overseeing a group of unruly and wild gang members, so to speak.
And he doesn't always control them.
This is true in two directions.
One is the one you mentioned.
I mean,
the messianic Zionist component of his alliance that are pushing for annexation of the Gaza Strip, annexation of South Lebanon, annexation of parts of South Syria, and of course, total Judaization of the West Bank.
The other direction or the other kind of gang members he doesn't always control are the Orthodox Jews and their insistence that their young members of their society would continue to be exempted from military service, which even among his own voters is not a very popular policy.
He's a bit of a political magician.
I think he would know how to navigate or juggle before the elections, although it's a tall task on his part compared to the previous election campaigns he participated in.
But there's a good chance he might still be able to do it, and not only because of his
abilities as a politician, but because also of the weakness of the coalition, or the opposition, rather, that faces him.
It is disunited.
It doesn't really offer any significant alternative to the Netanyahu government policies.
And its main message is we don't want Bibi Netanyahu.
It can work for a while, but, you know, this is not really...
an alternative, and these are not solutions for what a lot of Israelis do feel are problems that they are facing economically, socially.
Of course, unfortunately, they don't bother that much about their relationship with the Palestinians, but economically and socially, the implosion from within, all of this does trouble them.
And they can't find really answers when they go to the leaders of the opposition, apart from, you know, the message we are better than Netanyahu in dealing with these issues.
