But back to the limited two of it all, let's dive like a Lisa Frank dolphin a little further into what the Y2K aesthetic actually looked like.

So Y2K style initially took its cues from the retrofuturism trends of the 70s.

So lots of bright colors, lime green, some bright orange, so much hot pink, oh my God.

But oftentimes also a lot of metallics and keeping in theme with the 90s also lots of leopard print.

So we're combining a lot of different aesthetics here.

We've got some of like the neo-futuristic stuff.

There was a lot of like tribal aesthetics happening at the time.

A lot of animal print, like I was saying, also a lot of psychedelia, psychedelic pieces like tie dye, lava lamps.

I kind of think some of that was remnants of the celestial aesthetic movement of the 90s.

I know y'all remember that.

basically the people yearn for a cheetah girls reunion tour the people yearn for fun the people yearn for funky we want prints and patterns and draping and lots of skin all kinds of fun stuff and the toys and technology were equally as bright bulky and eye-catching i know everybody remembers or has seen elwood's bright orange mac game boys digital cameras bedazzled sidekicks my sister had a really cool i don't even know what kind of phone it was but it was maroon and it slid horizontally and vertically and i was jealous

Basically, any opportunity to make graphic design choices that were like chunky, sparkly, in your face, lots of fun was very accepted and welcome.

This was a very maximalist era.

We had no time for your clean girl bullshit, which could also be seen in the interior design choices.

I'm thinking about some of the sets of those iconic Nickelodeon shows like

Brain Surge was a little bit later.

But just like Nickelodeon, I think is a pretty good example of some of the earlier maximalist.
