And with my brother, Ashley, we were sitting watching Laurel and Hardy.

I had never heard the words.

We were in the house watching Laurel and Hardy and from the ocean just down beyond the bottom of the estate was the explosion.

And it was chaos afterwards.

And we don't need to get into that because that is a whole different podcast in itself.

But what was extraordinary was I'd never heard the words political assassination.

I didn't understand what had happened.

My grandfather's funeral, which was a state funeral, happened on my 12th birthday on the 5th of September.

And interestingly, one of my very clear memories of that was on that royal train that the Queen had organized to take my grandfather's body from London to be buried in Rumsey.

My godmother, the Duchess of Kent, came and found me.

And she had organised a small gold cross with the date on it.

And she was the one person who remembered that it was my birthday.

Isn't that amazing?

It's a fantastic story.

I didn't see much of my mother actually during that time, which was distressing.

That was the most distressing thing because we were so close.

The most confusing part, I think, was the day, the night after the bomb.

My mother took me from my room and moved me into the bed with her in Classeybourne Castle in Ireland.

And she wanted me to sleep next to her.
