I feel like I would probably be remiss not to mention Margot's Got Money Troubles because I know that was like a really popular show.
But I did not like that show.
And so I did not want to focus on it.
I think it's a little bit too Cinderella-y in its idea that like OnlyFans can come in and sort of like swoop you away from all of your money troubles.
I mean, it's sort of in contrast to, I don't want to say poor TV, but it is very much about having reached a particular level of the middle class, but then also feeling that slip away from you, right?
These shows also feel to me quite a bit different from other class conscious shows we've had in the past.
say, made or the wire, where it is specifically much more about people who are entrenched in poverty or some state of not being able to enter the quote-unquote official economy.
And talking about all of these institutional failures that keep people down, I don't think that's what these shows are really focused on.
And the other...
feeling or vibe that broke TV kind of gets at is the idea that, you know, brokenness is kind of like a feeling and a lot of these shows that I wanted to talk about really focus on the emotional aspect of what it is like to feel like your status is slipping away.
Sometimes it's not your fault.
And sometimes it kind of is your fault.
I sort of
fault.
I think that is a part of it.
The reason why I love that second season of Beef so much is that, you know, there's a country club manager and his wife, who are played by Oscar Isaac, and...
Carey Mulligan.
And they have all of these grandiose ambitions for what they want their lives to look like.
And they are probably living in a house that they
