Yeah, that.

I mean, to be honest, I haven't got a good answer for that one yet.

I knew I was going to get asked because it's a book about doubles.

But I did not set out to write a book about doubles.

I set out to write a book about a person who lost themselves.

And then it was that sort of thing where I was like, okay, the person who I'm trying to write, have they lost someone?

Or is this someone who imagines they are going to lose someone?

And I went back and forth on myself and I wasn't sure which way was the better way to write this thing that I was trying to get at.

And then I just put the two of them into dialogue with each other.

So there's one person who lost someone as well as stuff, their career, their flat and so on and so forth.

And there's someone who lived with the possibility of losing someone for quite a long, for a while.

And it hasn't, in the first instance, lost them.

So it was about that.

So I thought, okay, if I commented from both sides, maybe something interesting will come.

Yeah.

And then it can still destroy you, just sort of imagining you lose someone for a long time.

I mean, in the book, it just destroys the person still.

Even they come out of it the other end, everything looks like it's fine, but it's not fine because, you know, you still have to deal with stuff.

Yeah.
