So it feels arbitrary, but I think exactly the conditions, I think obviously the conditions of this sublet, it's kind of like it later transpires that this is a sublet that the main character Aubrey moved into after kind of condoning the death of his wife.

he he lives in there he sort of exists in there he subsists in there in a way and arguably like the the sublet the environment sort of reflects a little bit his state of mind and so do his clothes like i mean long-term readers will know that often my characters um personalities are expressed in their clothes

to a large extent.

So there's, here, it's the entire environment that is sort of kind of like, totally kind of arbitrary and random, but also kind of a little bit derelict, isn't it?

So they're obviously also kind of disorientated, aren't they, in this scene?

And the disorientation, I guess, is like a big theme in the entire book.

Yeah, so I think one of the other headlines in terms of what the book is about is it's a little bit about a character or characters who kind of lost themselves a little bit.

sort of forms of selfhood that they identified or that they used to know or that they used to recognize as themselves, they no longer fit.

So that is something that I quite specifically wanted to do with this book.

other things as well loss on a personal level in terms of the characters but loss also lost in their election in terms of england and you know great britain and arguably the world yeah the sort of kind of um crumbling state of everything but it's such genius um i don't know yes you've already said it's in aldersgate

It's interesting because it is precisely, the location of the novel is precisely like Sarah says, is on Aldersgate Street, which is kind of the street where Barbican Tube is.

And it's also set on the Golden Lane Estate, partly.

So it's kind of set around the Barbican.

However, in the kind of like poor, poor, poor, poor kind of sibling of the Barbican.
