About a month after Paul returned home from living with the Hudson, he started tenth grade at Garfield High School.
Mr Hudson was there too.
He'd been hired to teach science.
You might think it would bother the teen seeing the man who abused him at school every day, but he still viewed mister Hudson as a sort of surrogate parent, someone who took him seriously and had his best interests at heart.
Sometimes Paul said he would go to Mr.
Hudson for advice, asking him how to talk to girls, but his mentor discouraged him from acting on his crushes.
The two of them also spent time together outside school.
Sometimes they'd be alone at Mr.
Hudson's house, or they'd go hiking in the woods.
At each location, Mr.
Hudson abused him.
During this period, teenage Paul was often high or drunk.
Mr.
Hudson was his supplier, stocking him with beer and prescription meds.
Several times they drove together to Canada.
The teacher would buy bottles of coating there, sharing it with the boy, telling him to keep the medication in case of a mountain emergency.
But Paul told me he assumed mister Hudson was saying that with a wink.
Why else would he give him hundreds of pain pills?
