Paul existed.
He told me he was anxious about what we would reveal about mister Hudson.
So he created a mini support system for himself.
Every Tuesday morning, Paul listened to the latest episode and debriefed with one of the two close friends I later spoke with.
Paul made it clear to me that at first, he didn't like the podcast.
And he was annoyed with me.
He felt I'd made the narrative about myself.
But Paul explained that his opinion changed after we chronicled the stories of Ocean Mason, Jonathan Hill, and Jason Fox.
That's when he decided to get in touch with me.
At the beginning of this podcast, I set out to learn if Ella and I were truly to blame for Tom Hudson's death.
This experience has brought me closure.
But not in the way I thought it would.
From the moment I had my mom report the allegations of Tom Hudson's abuse to the day the man died, just two months had gone by.
So I think our actions must have played a part.
But I've also come to see the past in a new light, thanks to Paul.
As Paul said this, it dawned on me there was another way to look at everything that happened twenty-five years ago.
While Ella and I weren't aware of him in 1999, the three of us were unknowingly working together to prevent Tom Hudson from abusing more boys.
And it wasn't just us.
There was the student who told Seattle Public Schools investigator Eddie Hill in 1999 that Tom Hudson was making him and other boys at Garfield uncomfortable.
I still don't know that boy's identity.
