You might think it would be a challenge to get black players to come to Alabama.

And uh that that really wasn't the case.

You you had, you know, this pent up desire from, you know, maybe generations even or or at least in the modern era since since Bear Bryan had been there in in nineteen fifty eight of black players who wanted to play in Alabama.

But even going back earlier

About the the South African rugby team and when Nelson Mandela took over and the rugby team had always kind of been a symbolist symbol of the apartheid state in South Africa.

So black people weren't

Inclined to root for them to succeed in the Rugby World Cup.

And Nelson Mandela said, Hey, we all need to get behind this.

This is South Africa's team.

Um, so you didn't need a Mandela type to encourage black people.

So going back even to one of their early Rose Bowl appearances, like they got a letter of support from the Tuskegee.

Uh, you know, the players at Tuskegee said, Hey, we're rooting for you, you know, go represent Alabama well.

So there was

I was a feeling that we're all in this together if you just let us play.

what it would mean, right?

Yeah, it it it wasn't just so clean the oh, so this game happened, they decided to get like players and
