very fair deals over the last number of years.
We've significantly expanded the number of public servants working.
We've over 70,000 more public servants working over the last five to six years.
The public pay bill has grown significantly as a share of our overall expenditure because we're prioritising the expansion of public services.
But again, any deal for the future has to be sustainable.
We won't agree a deal at any cost.
And
You know, we hope we'll have discussions through September, but we've had previous times where, for example, we had discussions in December of a calendar year and the budget would have been agreed in October.
Minister Dunhu, when he was agreeing budgets, would have planned for a future pay deal, which would have been agreed in December and accounted for in the following year.
So, you know, we'll...
plan for it but again we won't agree something at any cost and i have to ensure that what we do is responsible and affordable and that's the context in which we'll enter the pay discussions but i'm clear that i want to deal industrial peace is good for ireland and you know i think it would you know we we we value the stability that it provides in terms of day-to-day public services
