Well, that was a school of recording that goes back to Al Schmidt and Phil Ramone.
And the philosophy was, go out and listen to the instrument you're about to record.
And then come back into the studio and recreate that sound as best you can so that you can see that instrument in front of you.
Well, then, all right.
So this was passed on to Royce Cala, Chiliacus.
Then their philosophy, in particular Shelly, was now you've got all of these instruments that sound like the instruments that are out in the room, now make it sound like a record.
Okay, what does that mean to you?
Add the magic to it.
The compression, the EQ, the reverb, the delays, all those things that make it have that magic.
Don't go completely crazy.
Be subtle with it, and it'll work out great.
It's quite dry, actually.
