And I would say that all of the people who were insisting on these rule of law prosecutions against the Trump administration and about how it was necessary to uphold the rule of law, I think the rule of law is in a worse place now because of those.

So I'll answer that question, but I just want to explain first why I don't think the self-pardon issue is as important as some people make out if I could.
So the pardon power is a power to relieve the consequences of a criminal prosecution or a criminal investigation.
It's to wipe out the effects of the crime effectively.
It's not clear that there's any crime being committed here.

The pardon power is stated in a way that doesn't answer the question.
It says the president has the power to pardon.
Some people think that a pardon involves a bilateral relationship and therefore the president can't pardon himself.
Some people think that, as the Office of Legal Counsel once said in the 1970s,
No man, and I'm paraphrasing, can be a judge in his own case.
