I don't want this to be taken as a moral endorsement of Roman Obramovich, but I am almost too scared to think what football would be like if that hadn't happened because the entire like everything that's happen like literally everything that's happened the last twenty-three years in English football is downstream from this one thing.

And if you take that out, who I don't know where we would end up.

I know that's quite a

cowardly thing to s thing to say.

And there's certainly part of me that thinks, no, like that would have been the moment for English football to stand up against, you know, questionable owners.

Um but I don't think English football was ever minded to do that.

I don't think that's just not how this country works ultimately.

Uh so I will say in a very cowardly way, I'm actually kind of okay with where we ended up.

Do I have any confidence that in a world in which if we imagine a world in which Ibrahimovich didn't buy Chelsea and Shakemansaw didn't buy Manchester City and all the other foreign you know, that's we haven't even mentioned the Glazers, for example, or any other of the foreign investments into Premier League ownership in the last 20 years, do I think that English football could have built itself a fair, equitable, sustainable

sustainable, competitively balanced model without those outside influences.

No, I don't.

I think that the story of Tottenham last season shows that boardroom change has to be managed very carefully.

I do think Tottenham's a really, really unique situation in the sense that Daniel Levy was both the man who made all of the decisions and who accumulated so much power for himself.

And, you know, from football side to finance to the stadium, construction, infrastructure, everything.
